Outback & Atherton Tablelands Tour
Commence your one day trek to the outback. Travel south of Cairns crossing the Southern end of the Tablelands via the Palmerston Highway with views from Crawfords Lookout and the top of Mt Hugh Nelson. Cross the Atherton Tablelands, past extinct volcanic craters and rich tropical tableland vegetation. On this outback tour you will witness dramatic changes of scenery as you enter the Gulf Savannah plains where you will amaze at wide horizons, huge cattle stations and wildlife including kangaroos and colourful birds.
The first stop is the Volcanic Crater, Lake Barrine. Walk through the rainforest to the Ancient Twin Kauri Pines or join the optional lake cruise. Travel through picturesque Yungaburra before visiting the famous Curtain Fig Tree. Continue onwards past Malanda Falls to spectacular Millaa Millaa Falls providing an unforgettable photo opportunity and continue onto Millaa Millaa Lookout.
Travel to Woodleigh Cattle Station for an old fashioned bush BBQ and guided tour of the pioneer homestead with the family of the original settlers. Journey back through historic Herberton and Atherton, to the Mareeba Heritage Museum, depicting life through the ages of the Mareeba and Tablelands district. Return to Cairns via the scenic Kuranda Range.
